Overview

Drive Weather brings real-time weather tracking to the road, showing motorists live cloud cover, wind speed and temperature along their route at the exact time they'll reach each point. Drivers can compare conditions across different routes, add customisable stops and interactively shift their departure time to find the safest window to travel. We built it to turn raw forecast data into a practical, journey-led planning tool.

The challenge

Turning forecasts into journey decisions

A standard forecast tells you the weather at a place, not along a trip. The challenge was to map weather to a route and a timeline at once, then let drivers play with departure times and stops, all without overwhelming them with data or false alarms.

Our approach

Research first, then build

We designed around the journey rather than the location. Route planning lets users add waypoints and custom stops, while an interactive time slider models how conditions change along the way as departure time shifts. To keep alerts meaningful, we built an activity threshold so drivers define the conditions that matter to them, cutting noise and surfacing only relevant warnings. The app shipped natively for Android and iOS.

Inside the product

What we shipped

A journey-led weather app for Android and iOS, from animated splash screen through route planning, time-shifting and personalised alert thresholds.

01

Route-based forecasting

Add waypoints and custom stops to map National Weather Service conditions along the whole journey and dodge weather delays before they happen.

02

Departure time slider

An interactive slider that models how conditions change along the route as departure time shifts, so drivers can find the safest window to set off.

03

Multi-route comparison

Compare weather across different routes side by side, turning a generic forecast into a clear choice between travel options.

04

Personalised alert thresholds

User-defined conditions that filter out false alarms and surface only the warnings that genuinely matter to each driver.

05

Cross-platform native build

Built natively for both Android and iOS so the planning experience stays fast and consistent on every device.

Results

Safer trips, fewer surprises

Drive Weather shipped on Android and iOS as a practical planning tool that maps weather to both route and timing. By letting drivers compare routes, shift departure times and set their own alert thresholds, it turns a generic forecast into a clear answer to one question: when is the safest time to travel?
