Overview

Story Portal is an AR-based interactive storytelling game that integrates digital imagery into the real world. Players move through multiple levels with custom difficulty while switching between front and rear-facing cameras to frame the story around them. Built in Unity, it follows a murder-mystery narrative set across richly designed scenes, and points to a wider future for immersive reality experiences across other business fronts, from entertainment to enhancing customer buying experiences.

The challenge

Telling a story through the camera

AR storytelling has to feel believable. Digital scenes need to sit convincingly in the player's real environment, the camera switching has to be smooth, and the narrative has to stay compelling across multiple levels and difficulties. The experience also had to be robust enough to point towards wider commercial uses beyond the game itself.

Our approach

Research first, then build

We led with the story, a detective working a murder mystery, and designed each scene to draw players deeper in. Built in Unity with AR at its core, the game integrates digital imagery into the player's surroundings and uses both front and rear-facing cameras to frame the action. We layered in multiple levels with custom difficulty and a strong first-time user experience, keeping the foundation flexible enough to extend immersive reality into other business contexts.
