Overview

Wx24 Pilot helps domestic pilots understand the weather before they fly. We built this iOS app to surface conditions along a chosen flight path at a chosen time, so pilots can plan a safe trip with confidence. Its standout feature is a genuinely readable approach to aviation weather, taking dense METARs and TAFs and presenting them in a clear, visual style that can be understood in seconds.

The challenge

Decoding aviation weather at a glance

Aviation weather is notoriously dense. METARs and TAFs pack critical information into cryptic strings, and weather monitoring eats into a pilot's preparation time. The app had to make complex forecasts genuinely readable and route-aware, without losing the rigour that safe flying demands.

Our approach

Research first, then build

We treated readability as the core product problem. The Raw TAF view compiles a range of aviation forecasts and renders them in a clear visual style, so complicated METARs and TAFs can be examined in seconds. An animated, colour-coded radar removes the slow, manual work of weather monitoring by aggregating forecasts in real time, while the Air/Sigmets view lets both students and experienced pilots study conditions along a planned route. The app was built natively for iOS.

Inside the product

What we shipped

A focused iOS aviation weather app, from splash screen through readable raw forecasts, an animated radar and route-based Air/Sigmets.

01

Readable METARs and TAFs

A clear visual rendering of dense aviation forecasts so pilots can examine complicated METARs and TAFs in seconds rather than decoding cryptic strings.

02

Real-time animated radar

A colour-coded radar that aggregates forecasts in real time, removing the slow manual work of keeping current on changing weather patterns.

03

Route-aware conditions

An Air/Sigmets view that lets aviation students and experienced pilots study weather along their planned route before they fly.

04

Built natively for iOS

A focused iOS app engineered for the rigour safe flying demands, keeping forecasts fast and dependable in preparation.

Results

Clearer skies before take-off

Wx24 Pilot shipped on iOS as a focused aviation weather tool that makes dense forecasts genuinely readable. By rendering METARs and TAFs in seconds, layering a real-time animated radar and surfacing route-based Air/Sigmets, it gives domestic pilots a faster, clearer way to check the weather before they fly.
